Welcome to Morvanna

Morvanna began in 1998 with our welsh mountain ponies in Moss Side, Lytham on a rented yard. In 2005 we moved to a small holding at Back Dixon's Farm, Newton. In 2007 the opportunity came for us to purchase the small holding which we eagerly took. Morvanna is situated in some fantastic Lancashire countryside, situated in the village where i grew up and my dad brfore me. We have watched the village grow dramatically over the past 40 years, the concrete invasion, the start and end of numerous generations and the change of village life in general.
Our aim at Morvanna is to breed rear and enjoy our animals whilst supporting our rare and native breeds. Our pedigree pigs boost some of the rarest lines within their breeds. We strive to maintain a very high standard of enviromental care, encourageing the wildlife to settle in with us and thrive. 2010 has seen our first pair of breeding hares, never even seen a rabbit before. At last count we had 42 different types of bird breeding or visiting us on a regular basis.
We have undertaken quite a bit of replanting in order to repair our hawthorne hedges and have also introduced some gorse to add a little colour and also encourage the native bees who are in need of a boost. This spring has brought the start of our veg and herb garden, an odd shaped a piece of land on the outskirts of the holding which was at a loose end is no longer. "Potters Corner" as we have called it is coming on nicely, looking very green and will hopefully be very fruitful.
Our carbon footprint is also of the utmost importance to us, so much so we have registered as a waste carrier and broker. Nothing we use on site is wasted, all our bale string, feed bags, bale wrap , buckets, etc are all recycled. We even recycle our manure.
We are working on our water and electricity usage as we speak. In the last 2 years we have reduced our usage by over 55% and are currently looking at solar energy and natural water usage.
We hope you enjoy Morvanna with us and please feel free to contact us if there is anything you want to know or would like to tell us.
Potters Corner (PC)

In our quest to use every inch of space in a constructive manor, we had a triangular piece of overgrown space which was at a loose end. After a little thought and knowing that we had long term plans for the space, a tempoarary use sprang to mind....."Potters corner" was created. Raised beds, John's old bike tyres for planters and some recycled buckets for the spuds.

At present we have peppermint, mint, chives, parsley, sage, thyme and corriander all happily growing within the tyre planters. Three types of rhubarb growing under the hedge row. Garlic, onions, peas, beans, beetroot, lettuce, carrots and radish growing in the beds. Spuds in the buckets, gooseberry and blackcurrant bushes along the end of one of the beds. Soon i'll have the sunday roast dinner completely produced at Morvanna!
